The last time we saw such a big fix (compared to the previous session) was on 29 November 2010 (147 pips), which came on the back of EUR weakness (broad USD strength) on EU-related debt concerns (primarily Ireland). Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic is hoping to return from his hip injury in the Bundesliga encounter against Hertha Berlin this Sunday.
The 32-year-old ruptured a tendon in his hip area in the 5-0 win over Hamburg in mid-August, just a week after returning from a prior knee injury sustained in last November.
The Croatian is positive that he is able to make a full recovery in time and make an appearance from the bench in this weekend's fixture against Hertha Berlin, even if he's not fit enough to play through all 90 minutes.

Viktor Bout Goes On Trial In Arms-Trafficking Case -- Washington Post
A Manhattan federal prosecutor on Wednesday accused Russian arms broker Viktor Bout of seeking to sell millions of dollars in weapons, including 100 surface-to-air missiles, to purported agents of a Colombian rebel group that expressed an intent to kill American pilots.
The allegations came at the opening of Bout's trial, the culmination of a five-year-long effort by the United States to capture and prosecute one of the world's most famous alleged arms traffickers.

Mastermind Of Deadly Raid On American Soldiers Coordinated Plot Against Saudi Ambassador -- Long War Journal
The US Treasury Department has designated five individuals involved in an alleged plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the US, including Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF). Soleimani "oversees the IRGC-QF officers who were involved in this plot," according to Treasury.
Another of the five is Abdul Reza Shahlai, an IRGC-QF officer who planned the Jan. 20, 2007 attack on US soldiers stationed in Karbala, Iraq. That attack left five US soldiers dead and wounded three others.
The same groups had sued the Bush administration over its ozone policy, but agreed to suspend the suit when the Obama administration came to office and promised to reconsider the Bush standard. That reconsideration was delayed several times before finally being killed by the president last month.

Wolfsburg have given a full-time contract to youngster Bjarne Thoelke, who could make his debut for the 2009 champions in Saturday's Bundesliga match against Nuremberg.

Oct. 5 -- Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs's death today at age 56 follows years of health struggles that began in 2003, when he was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.
Jobs had a neuroendocrine tumor, which is less aggressive than some other types of pancreatic malignancies. He eventually resigned as chief executive officer on Aug. 24, saying he could "no longer meet my duties and expectations."
Neuroendocrine tumors can grow slowly and be treated successfully with early removal.

Libyan revolutionary forces stormed through the streets of Sirte yesterday, tightening their noose on this last bastion of support for the fallen former leader, Muammar Gaddafi.
Recent days have seen the transitional government's troops surging into the coastal city, where they have met dwindling resistance from Gaddafi loyalists holed up within a rapidly-diminishing area.
Sirte, where Gaddafi was born in 1942, has been under siege since 15 September. At dawn on Friday, fighters loyal to the National Transitional Council (NTC) began what they called a "final assault". Its momentum has built steadily since then as the NTC seized landmarks on the outskirts and pushed further into residential areas at its heart.

OTTAWA — Amnesty International called on Canadian authorities Wednesday to arrest and prosecute George W. Bush, saying the former U.S. president authorized "torture" when he directed the U.S.-led war on terror.
Bush is expected to attend an economic summit in Surrey in Canada's westernmost British Columbia province on October 20.
The London-based group charged that Bush has legal responsibility for a series of human rights violations in a memorandum submitted last month to Canada's attorney general but only now released to the media.
"Canada is required by its international obligations to arrest and prosecute former president Bush given his responsibility for crimes under international law including torture," Amnesty's Susan Lee said in a statement.
"As the U.S. authorities have, so far, failed to bring former president Bush to justice, the international community must step in. A failure by Canada to take action during his visit would violate the UN Convention Against Torture and demonstrate contempt for fundamental human rights," Lee said. A spokesman for the Canadian government was not immediately available for comment.

Samir Nasri came to the rescue to send France through to the Euro 2012 finals after Bosnia-Herzegovina had threatened to pull off an upset.
Edin Dzeko's stunning 40th-minute strike looked set to be enough to send Bosnia to the finals before his Manchester City team-mate Nasri was tripped in the box 12 minutes from time and got up to coolly convert the spot-kick.
Nasri's goal guaranteed France their place in Poland and Ukraine next summer while disappointed Bosnia must settle for a place in the play-offs. Also in Group D, Romania were held to a 1-1 draw in Albania.

Slain al Qaeda Propagandist's Family Gets Condolence Calls From State Department -- ABC News
Last week, the State Department called the family of slain al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula propagandist Samir Khan twice to offer their condolences, a spokeswoman for the department said today.
Khan, a U.S. citizen, was killed in the same CIA airstrike in Yemen on Sept. 30 that killed Anwar al-Awlaki, another U.S. citizen and the alleged inspiration for recent terror attempts on the United States.
A U.S. consular official, in keeping with standard practice when an American is killed abroad, phoned Khan's next of kin "to express our sympathy with the family," spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.
